My name is Karen Rojas. I am an experienced teacher, with 14 years of classroom and tutoring experience. I was born and raised in New York. I live in Florida, and I am really enjoying the weather here, but I do miss New York style pizza.

I began my teaching career in New York; I later taught in New Jersey and now in Florida. When I taught in New Jersey, I taught in the city that has been ranked in the top ten for the most crime and poverty. It was a great experience, and that city is Camden, NJ.

Likewise, I have experience teaching in-person and virtually and I have seen great results in both areas. In 1999-2000 I had an amazing opportunity to teach overseas in Paraguay, South America. I enjoy teaching Math and Reading. I have my reading endorsement, and this is equivalent to having a master’s degree in Reading.

My current teaching position is teaching STEM for my district’s virtual school. This is my second and a half year teaching virtually. When I teach virtually, I use a document camera to model instruction. I also offer help sessions to struggling students and/or advanced students. I use digital manipulatives, but I also use a good ole’ notebook where students take notes and complete their lessons.

Lastly, I am punctual and make the most out of every teaching opportunity I have. I enjoy teaching; I look forward to seeing my students make gains regardless how big or small their successes are. I use every opportunity to assess so I can identify student needs and fill in the gaps of learning loss. I consider myself to be engaging and fun with my students. I like to play games and offer challenges to further push my students cognitively.
